Movies.

Hmm. For some reason I've been having this in mind:
I'll move to Chicago and work as a (junior) film critic.

But not some ordinary film critic... an apprentice under Roger Ebert. (my idol film critic.)
Wouldn't that be cool? Hehe. But wait... what would u know? You don't know the person? All I can say is that he gets to watch every single movie ever shown in one week. Isn't that cool compared to those who only watch one in two or one week?
Try reading his reviews. Here.

But why the hell am I thinking about this?
As much as I don't picture myself in the future doing some kind of monotonous job in the boring Philippine offices, I still can't figure out where I'll get the money to even make a move to the states. Lol.

I'm crazy. Don't mind me. Here we go:

DONNIE DARKO

This movie definitely goes up there on my list together with Juno, Little Miss Sunshine and Zodiac.

Just remembering it gives me chills of what might have been and could have been. To me, it was simply a tragic love story more than anything. Just that it was hidden behind all the suspense, science-fiction, etc. Although those don't make it bad either.

The film stars a younger Jake Gyllenhaal (who is also in Zodiac) together with a younger Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jena Malone and a very much younger Daveigh Chase. The cast also includes Drew Barrymore, Noah Wyle, Patrick Swayze and James Duval. Quite jam-packed, don't you agree?

I guess the reason it appeals to me a lot is that the character has some kind of mental/psychological problem. I really like those type of characters, you should know. (See Bellatrix Lestrange, Billy Bibbit, etc.) Don't you wish FX would have some play with some character like this? Correction: don't I wish. Lol.

Jake Gyllenhaal plays the title role: a troubled teen who decides he needs to follow messages from a demonic rabbit. Yes, strange as it is, it really has some depth to it.

It can almost be an ensemble story--many point of views to look at-- but it isn't because it follows Donnie's world and how his actions touch that of others around him.

What I think I really enjoyed was the bizaare chemistry between all the cast members. It kind felt awkward but you know it was there and you know it was really strong. Take for example Donnie and his girlfriend. Just seeing it sets a spark.

More than what it was, I think Donnie really had some depth into him. He wasn't just the schizo he apparently seemed. There was something more in him. You could really feel--dare I say it--the love. It was burning. For his sister as she bade her goodbye with a last kiss. For his girlfriend when he looked into her eyes as she laid dead in the passenger seat. It really was heartbreaking. It was.

(What the hell, I don't think I'm making any sense anymore.)

The final scene just struck strings. It was really heart-wrenching. The song was perfect (download it... Mad World by Gary Jules. It sorta reminds me of Eyes, the song that loomed in a few of the first-season episodes of Heroes.) But wow. The cast was once again shown in a most depressing state. It was beautiful. Beautiful in the way that it breaks your heart.

Basically I just loved it. That's all there is to it.
Definite Must Watch.

TWILIGHT

"I don't have the strength to stay away from you anymore."

How to enjoy or be affected by Twilight:
1. Don't read the book beforehand.
2. Be a third year student without a prom date.

What is it with this movie?

I must say, it was so romantic I could puke... but at the same time I'd say I was struck. STRUCK HARD. I agree with Roger Ebert. It was erotomania all the way. But you have to say (and I quote Paula...) "Chemistry was insane."

The thing is... I had no intention of watching the movie. I didn't think I'd enjoy it.
That's why I guess I enjoyed it more... I didn't think of it.
'Coz see, when you're hyped up for something, and you watch it and it isn't what you're expecting it to be, you're disappointed. (take for example, Dark Knight.)
But when you have nothing, NADA, no cares about it, and you do get affected... there we go. Hahahaha! Twilight is an example.

I think it was the scene where they laid on the grass. I'm not sure. That scene really hit me hard. And I mean really. The romance was it? I dunno. It suddenly made me worry about prom. o.O

Well, I like movies that know how to use silence. Really, it's more powerful than a strong line. (Check out my list of favorite movies above.)
Twilight effectively used it... but sometimes, it was just too much. Too much.
But when the scene did call for it, it worked out really well.

Plot was quite screwed up. I dunno. For me, it was all over the place.
Oh yes... I have to comment. Effects were TERRIBLE. o.O
And the pale white skin took getting used to. I didn't like it. I mean... even Bella had the skin. I dunno. I just don't like white-skinned peeps. I know they vampires and all... but still. There could be a different shade that would look better.

The last dance scene. It made me imagine a lot of things about what will happen in my own prom. Gahd. Hey, I found a ways to ask a girl. Is that not strange?

Oh yes. The scene where she leaves her dad. That hurt.
In fact, the scenes with the dad were quite a relief. Chemistry was good there. The whole father-daughter bond. I wish my dad were like him... "He doesn't hover."

You know what, if it weren't prom blues for me right not, I'd give it a lower rating. It's just that it really hit me hard that I dunno how to rate it. Lol. And that's the thing... you like a movie based on how it affected you. And it did.

How cheesy can I get? I guess that makes me hopelessly romantic? lol.

(BTW. Did anyone see the Philippine flag? Canteen scene. Right above the door.)

Oh yes. You're Twilight-watching experience increases when you watch it with teenage girls. Hahaha. It was fun seeing them react. Haha.

"You are my life now."

"That's what you dream about? Being a monster?"
"I dream about being with you forever."

"I'm only afraid of losing you."

Sorry. I couldn't help myself. Hahahaha!

I'd make a review about QUANTUM of SOLACE. But i fell asleep on most of it. I was so tired kasi from XP. Kaya here, enjoy the movie poster:

It's called Foreign Acent Syndrome. After a hit in the head, your accent changes.

Wouldn't you want that? I wish it happened to me... and I get a Scottish accent. =))
La lang.

I went to sleep so early last night!
What a record... around 8:30+

Well, technically no... I fell asleep.
While watching Scrubs and using the sub-notebook. o.O

No wonder I woke up early and didn't go back to sleep.

I was suppose to blog about something else.
I just forgot. o.O

7. Starbucks Tumbler/Mug Thing
What do you call it?
Anyhow... I want one... no apparent reason. Hahaha

8. Contact Lenses
I don't like my glasses. Hahaha.
I know I will be needing them anyway (haha. ;-) ), so I might as well pay extra so I can use it for a long time. It will pay off. :D
I think I'll put off my DS or Gmask for it. :D

don't think. don't speak

Designs

Finally, I'm done with whatever and whatever. Hahaha.
And it's all because of PAASCU week.

So yes, I did some designing over the week. o.O
I haven't done anything like it since seventh grade when I was still PRO.
The only thing I did over the high school years was help charles or criticize the board. Haha!

Anyhow. Here we go...

This first one, I'm not that proud of. it's so rushed. o.O
Harveen and I did it just the dismissal before.
It would have looked better if someone *coughjascoughpercough* had it all set up before sem break. o.O

It's our Photography Xelect exhibit. It can be seen in the LRC.
So, if you have the time, come over and visit it. :D
Para di naman langawin. (but in all fairness, i've seen some interested people)

Have a look...

And here's what I'm more proud of...

It's the 3C bulletin board. Not too shabby considering grade seven pa ang huli kong gawa.
I'm just happy I was able to make one. Hahaha. I miss doing that na eh. Lol.

It's kinda corny... but whatever. Haha!

That's it. :D

Oh.. btw. Did I mention Chinaaaaaa won Best Classroom Design in the Xp Interaction?
All thanks to my pond and cj's chinese animals! :D Haha.
Sadly, we don't have pictures. :|

42 Days Before Christmas Wishlist

Okay. I'm weird. Haha!
I usually do this on December. But oh well.

Here I go... this year, I want...

1. Nintendo DS.
Somehow... I'm gonna get it.
I will!

2. Sleepcare Microbead Pillow.
It's worth P750. But it's really soft. Totally worth it.
I want one! Hahaha. (I'm a pillow hog. Can't sleep with at least two.)
For some reason, I ended up in the Sleepcare store with my cousin last Saturday. And I just saw them... and I fell in love.

3. Slippers
For the house. But not just them ordinary rubber or plastic slippers.
I want soft ones. (Like ms.cuevas's panda).
A more cushion-like version of the Shangri-la hotel slippers. Hahaha.
And not colored white since they get dirty easily. (I should know)
Problem is... where do you buy this?

4. Earphones
Mine right now are about to snap. haha!
But i'm quite hesitant on this one 'coz I just recently got headphones, which I don't use much.
Why? They're tight and sweaty... not the type I wanted.
The ones I want could have come in a cheaper price and would be more comfortable. (or are bluetooth. Hahaha!)

5. New Albums
Up Dharma Down and Sponge Cola have new albums!
And I don't wanna download them. Haha! Support OPM!

6. GMask my cellphone
I have the money na! I just keep forgetting to bring it... o.O

Everything, except for the DS, is easy to save up for. :D (that is unless YOU wanna buy them for me. I don't mind. hahahahahahahahaha!)

I don't really plan to ask my parents for any of these.
They have enough expenses to deal with.
Besides, they bought so much for me from Hong Kong
(well maybe... I was thinking... pay for half of the DS. hahaha.)

But I'm still saving money for Christmas cards and Christmas gifts for my family.
So I might get them after New Year pa. But I will. :D

you're in my arms

Music

I'm quite addicted to So Close (Jon McLaughlin) for some reason. I dunno.
How is it that it's both romantic and emo at the same time?

(prom blues ba? i dunno. hahaha!)

Anyhow.
I'm trying to sing with what's left of my voice.
(I can't even reach the notes I can normally reach.)

I've mostly lost it to facilitating in XP.
But no regrets there. chinaaaaaaa!

(Why is it like there's only a few who enjoyed XP? Haha.)

Anyhow. I dunno what good a hoarse voice will do for bandfest.
Next week na. Hahaha.

But actually, I'm enjoying my hoarse voice.
It gives my singing voice a bit more of a distinguishing quality. Hehe.

I just realized I'm more of a blues and soul person. Haha.
And I guess that's what my voice was made for. haha.
(aside from the abnormally low mass song voice and the really crisp other voice)

Anyhow.
I want some Starbucks. :D (that was random.)

welcome to georgia.

Uhhh... it wasn't FAILURE.
But I'm not that satisfied yet.

I got all line of 9's. Save English.

Why the hell? It's English!?! Supposedly my best subject. o.O
EEEENGLISH na lang. argh.

I got the highest score for Soc Sci in the class. Haha.
Apparently, I'm the only line of 9 in Soc Sci in the class. Dead flat 90%. That's real sad.
(So my impression was right. :D It's just that everyone really did find it hard.)

But well... okay na rin.
I didn't do that bad compared to the others. :D

Optimism. :D

(daya ni kevin.g highest in socsci, fil and eng. nerd. jowk! :D peace!)

XP Xavier-Poveda Interaction.

It was amazing! Hehehe.

Let's start the night before.
So we decorated the classrooms till around 7 plus. (Go lily pond!) That was until the guard shooed us away. o.O

I came home quite tired. After eating dinner and watching tv, I fell asleep.
Woke up at around 10:30 or 11. For some reason, instinct told me I should do my bulletin board. Sigh. (sorry C kung magmukhang corny.... :D)
I finished that at around 2am. Then I went to bed.

But going to bed doesn't mean falling asleep.
I dunno what time I finally fell asleep (I'm sure I was still awake at 4)

So yeah... I had a sleepless night.... So I was quite worried about XP. Might not have energy. Hahaha. Faci pa naman.

Anyhow. As I said, it was grrrreat.
I don't wanna go into much detail na kasi I'm quite tired and lazy.

Mass was fun! The last time I sang with a mic (in choir) was grade school pa. But no, I'm not joining glee club pa rin. Hahaha.

Group CHINA! (/chain) Woohooo! Alright, you guys!

I was quite worried at first kasi it was kinda quiet... pero as the day went by, mas umiingay na kami. Hahaha. And everyone's like... woohoo! Hehehe.

By the way... we made FRIEND! Hahaha. He's the best ever.

Our grrrrrrroup is da bomb!
Steven (and FRIEND!) was nominated for best human trophy.
Paula and I were nominated for Best Faci.
CHINA won best classroom! (thanks, cj!)
China won BEST BONDED GROUP! hoooooorayt! hahaha.

Anyhow. That was fun.
Go CHINA! Hahaha.

Handwriting Analysis

Stolen from Ms.M! :D
I found it interesting so I gave it a shot.

Funny thing is it's very, very realistic. Haha!

It's been a long time since my last survey/meme/blogthing/whatever.

Welcome Luis Marcelo, here is your handwriting analysis.

Luis is moderately outgoing. His emotions are stirred by sympathy and heart rendering stories. In fact, he can be kind, friendly, affectionate and considerate of others. He has the ability to put himself into the other person's shoes. (true!)

Luis will be somewhat moody, with highs and lows. Sometimes he will be happy, the next day he might be sad. He has the unique ability to get along equally well with what psychology calls introverts and extroverts. This is because he is in between. Psychology calls Luis an ambivert. (kewl! hahaha!) He understands the needs of both types. Although they get along, he will not tolerate anyone that is too "far out." He doesn't sway too far one way or the other.

When convincing him to buy a product or an idea, a heart rendering story could mean a great deal to him. He puts himself in the same situation as the person in the story, yet he will not buy anything that seems overly impractical or illogical. Luis is an expressive person. He outwardly shows his emotions. He may even show traces of tears when hearing a sad story.

Luis is a "middle-of-the-roader," politically as well as logically. He weighs both sides of an issue, sits on the fence, and then will decide when he finally has to. He basically doesn't relate to any far out ideas and usually won't go to the extreme on any issue. (right again. :D)

People that write their letters in an average height and average size are moderate in their ability to interact socially. According to the data input, Luis doesn't write too large or too small, indicating a balanced ability to be social and interact with others.

Luis will be candid and direct when expressing his opinion. He will tell them what he thinks if they ask for it, whether they like it or not. So, if they don't really want his opinion, don't ask for it! (very, very true. Hahaha! rofl)

In reference to Luis's mental abilities, he has a very investigating and creating mind. He investigates projects rapidly because he is curious about many things. He gets involved in many projects that seem good at the beginning, but he soon must slow down and look at all the angles. He probably gets too many things going at once. (ang galing!) When Luis slows down, then he becomes more creative than before. Since it takes time to be creative, he must slow down to do it. He then decides what projects he has time to finish. Thus he finishes at a slower pace than when he started the project. (actually...)

He has the best of two kinds of minds. One is the quick investigating mind. The other is the creative mind. His mind thinks quick and rapidly in the investigative mode. He can learn quicker, investigate more, and think faster. Luis can then switch into his low gear. When he is in the slower mode, he can be creative, remember longer and stack facts in a logical manner. He is more logical this way and can climb mental mountains with a much better grip. (nice. i think the minds are real)

Luis is a practical person whose goals are planned, practical, and down to earth. This is typical of people with normal healthy self-esteem. He needs to visualize the end of a project before he starts. (true.) he finds joy in anticipation and planning. Notice that I said he plans everything he is going to do, that doesn't necessarily mean things go as planned. (...again) Luis basically feels good about himself. He has a positive self-esteem which contributes to his success. He feels he has the ability to achieve anything he sets his mind to. However, he sets his goals using practicality-- not too "out of reach". He has enough self-confidence to leave a bad situation, yet, he will not take great risks, as they relate to his goals. A good esteem is one key to a happy life. Although there is room for improvement in the confidence catagery, his self-perception is better than average.

Luis is constantly disappointed when trying to reach success. (ganun ba? parang half-true... pero half-hindi) He works very hard, perhaps harder than most, then just before succeeding, something happens that keeps him from success. (actually. totoo) Often, Luis changes to a second project just before the first one is finished, thus failing to complete the first project. Sometimes he changes because he feels he needs a different challenge. Luis feels dejected. This feeling relates to his failures. This trait is very important in a working situation and in a relationship. He must be handled in a very special way to get the most work from him or to make a relationship last. Concerning this trait, personality modification is available to change his life.

Luis has a healthy imagination and displays a fair amount of trust. He lets new people into his circle of friends. (i like that.) He uses his imagination to understand new ideas, things, and people.

Luis exaggerates about everything that has a physical nature. Although he may not intend to deceive or mislead, he blows things way out of proportion because that is the way he views them. He will be a good story teller. This exaggeration relates to all areas of his material world. Luis allows many people into his life because he is accepting and trusting. He is sometimes called gullible by his friends. That only really means that he trusts too many people. Luis has a vivid imagination. (i'd like to disagree. lol)

Luis has a very unusual lower zone y loop. If the data input is correct, Luis's y or g is large and has triangle shape to the lower loop. This is not a common trait, but the implications are very interesting. As you begin to study handwriting analysis, you will learn any loop indicates imagination. This lower loop indicates the amount of imagination Luis has regarding sex and physical things. His lower zone stroke is large, so his sexual imagination is large and open. Furthermore, because the loop has a triangle shape, this indicates a particular curiosity with certain aspects of sexuality. In a nutshell, Luis is open to some very new ideas sexually and is willing to try anything once. I'd say Luis is quite a dynamic and playful lover. Watch out world! (ganun ba? eh di... welcome, sex life! hahahahahahahahahha!)

Movies Part III

Okay. Here's my second attempt.
I hope Multiply doesn't bail on me... again. o.O
I hope I still touch the same points as in the first one.

Here are the last five movies.
Yehey. :D

High School Musical 3: Senior Year
Lol... I'm actually doing this.

Okay. I find the that the third time's the charm. Haha. Simply because, for one, it's more "bongga" (quoting a certain someone) when it comes to the production numbers and, for another, it has a better story.

I mean, the first movie is about breaking stereotypes and the second about making decisions. There are a lot of other movies that touch the same subject and fair better on it. But this one's about their final years in high school... leaiving things behind and moving on. I find it better since it's more grounded to the setting. Besides, it's easy related to 'coz who doesn't leave high school and have all those nostalgic feelings?

I'm really happy Olesya Rulin has a bigger role. She's my favorite since before. Hehe. However, I wish she had more singing parts. And she looked real beautiful in the start with the brown hair (was it?).

I'm also glad they took some time to make Ashley Tisdale's character evolve.. somewhat. She's less pumped up throughout the movie, but her scenes packed more in them. And I like how her secretary bitched on her. Realization on her part, which is long overdue throughout the series. But don't you just love the glorious comeback? (Reminds me of Hairspray)

(Don't you just love how the secretary sings with a British accent? Hahaha!)

My problem, however, lies in the songs. I do admit, they are a bit more impressive than before. But they don't bring the same thrill as when you hear the originals like Stick to the Status Quo. Add to that, they all seem to be out of timing.

I just hate how the lovers seem to keep breaking into song. I mean, it doesn't belong in there, but you just place the song in for a song's sake. It's quite annoying. Especially because they have too much mush and too much airtime. o.O One example is Right Here, Right Now.

I'm glad the gave Vanessa Hudgens a more upbeat song. Much better. But I wish they made Zac Efron's song a ballad. The start seemed promising... but when it picked up the pace, it sort of lost meaning.

It was a breath of fresh air to see A Night to Remember and The Boys Are Back. A break from the couple. o.O

Don't you just hate how their auditorium is so... big... and shiny... and fully-functioned?

It's great they reprised We're All in This Together, but I wish they broke out into the faster version. The slower version sounded real good, but as it went on, it got boring and anti-climactic. Finally, the last song was a fitting end to the whole series. High School Musical. You may find it cheesy, but I don't. It was great actually.

Wow. I can't believe I went through most of it. o_o
Basically that's it about that. It's High School Musical so you can't expect much... but you can't expect little either. Hehe.

Maalaala Mo Kaya: Rehas
Fine. Technically, it isn't a movie. But it's a one-time show, it was fantastic and I watched it. So might as well review it.

Gina Pareno was totally amazing. She truly deserves her acclaim. She was very natural yet unbelievably brilliant. Her show of plight was spectacularly done. I particularly love the scene wherein she questions God. I was thinking of my CLE lessons for some reason. But more than that, she did it real great. It made me water... but not teary yet.

The story was great in that it really showed a mother's suffering. However, I felt it was a bit too crammed. But it's quite understandable since it is a television show, and it has to keep up with a schedule.

Disney's Mulan
This is, arguably, my most favorite Disney film. (Apparently, I'm still arguing with myself. o.O) Mostly because it breaks stereotypes. It's non-Western. It tackles sexism.

The screenplay was fantastic. It can definitely hold up to Beauty and the Beast if it wasn't for the lack of romantic scenese. It flowed smoothly... nothing felt forced or out of place.

Critics say its weakness is in the lack of memorability of the songs. But I beg to differ. They were real memorable. I mean, who doesn't remember Reflection or I'll Make a Man Out of You? Actually, Honor to Us All is much like Belle. I believe it's just that the songs were too Asian for their Western memory. However, I wish there were more songs.

Eddie Murphy as Mushu was effective comic relief. He was the only "American" character in the cast just like Genie in Aladdin. However, I find him much better since he didn't go off and doing crazy all around the film.

Visually, the whole film was more clean rather than detailed; it served the film well. Also, you can see the Asian influence: the elemental stuff (smoke, water, fire, wind, etc.) form in traditional Eastern art, specifically the waves and curls.

Basically, the film was a great joy to watch.
But actually.... come to think of it... for some reason, I think my arguing had led me to lean more on Beauty and the Beast. It still lacks something I can't describe.(Way better than Aladdin though.)

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas
Honestly, am I the only one who didn't enjoy it? I'm definitely in the minority with this one.

Sure, I will admit. Animation was friggin' awesome! It mized both stop-motion and digital animation. It's greatly seen in the start of the movie. Everything was really detailed and unique. Perfect crafting.

Basically, the story's about the Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington who isn't satisfied with the succes of Halloween that he, after some exploration, wants to make Christmas his own, despite the warnings of Sally, a distant admirer.

I find it odd, strange and awkward. The characters were not convincing; the persistence, annoying. And that's basically it. I really didn't enjoy it. I guess it's the type of film you have to watch with different eyes.

Pulp Fiction
Fantastic film! A real work of art. This is a cult classic by Quentin Tarantino (also the creator of Kill Bill) It's described as the film that defined the times, and I have to admit that there's a reason why it is. Damn right is it. It's the kind of film you watch and end up with a feeling that you're the coolest kid in your greaser high school.

This film experiments (at that time) by using a non-chronological narration. You can say it's also an ensemble piece. It has brilliant performance that it's no wonder dying careers were resurrected. Samuel L Jackson (amazing... as usual. it's his character role), John Travolta and Uma Thurman were nominated for Oscars on this. Adding to the cast are Bruce Willis (who's perfect for his role), Maria de Medeiros (amazing innocence!), Ving Rhames, Tim Roth and Amanda Plummer (another standout).

By the way, it won an Oscar for its screenplay.

Uma Thurman was really, really brilliant on this one. (I have to add, I didn't recognize her with the blonde locks) She was so intensely in-character. Applause. And she's a great dancer too. I wish she won the Oscar.

Basically, this film thrives on making comedy out of leading the worst situations into even more worst situations. (wow... grammar. o.O) And it really is good at it.

Dialogue was just as brilliant. I can't describe in words how I want to describe it, but just know it really was brilliant. It was real smart too. And what makes the film more comic is its reference back to previous dialogue.

Well. This film truly is a marvel. So, this one, you definitely have to watch.
(However, I have a feeling it may be hit or miss. But bigger percentage on Hit!)

Finally! All done. :D Woohoo.
If you'll excuse me, it's 3:30am. Best be in bed now. :D
(i copied it to notepad... for backup. :D)

Movies part II

Here we go.
I have a couple more. And by that, I mean eight more movies to go.

I hope I get to finish them na.
Hehe. I have only horror movies left to watch. Yikes.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
This was definitely a briliant movie. But it left me somewhat bittersweet. I dunno why.

Kate Winslet was awesome in this one. I loved how she was so unpredictable and crazy. Quirky and all that. It's great she was nominated for an Oscar on this one. Haha. Jim Carrey was great as well... nakakaawa siya. Hahaha. And so was everyone else. Kirsten Dunst. Mark Ruffalo. Tom Wilkinson. Elijah Wood. Elijah Wood was really.... woah... ibang-iba. Galing.

I dunno what else to talk about. Haha. basta this one was a beautiful movie. Next....

Finding Neverland
This is another really good film. It was really heartwarming; gives you a big smile right after watching it. (Indication I really, really liked the movie.) I wish it won the Oscar.

The film is about a man and how he came to write the classic tale of Peter Pan, basing it on a couple of children who themselves are starting to grow up. It's semi-biographical. Lem'me just say... the story really was wonderful. I loved it a lot.

Johnny Depp plays the protagonist, the playwright, Mr. Barrie. He really gave life to the character. Very eccentric, but different in the way he makes Jack Sparrow, Sweeney Todd or Willy Wonka eccentric. (He's really perfect for these offbeat kind of roles. Yet you can't specifically typecast him since they all vary.) A bit more civilized and English though. Scratch that... Scottish. (how I want that accent)

Anyhow. He meets a couple of children in the park. The Davies brothers. They have a single mother played by Kate Winslet. She was perfect for the role. I've watched three of her movies already, and among them, I most definitely loved her most in this one. It's too bad she wasn't nominated an Oscar for this one. (Although she did get a nomination that year for her role in the movie above.) She was endearing and really motherly. And lovely.

So yes. They've lost their father. Most affected by the tragic loss is little Peter Davies. He's played by Freddie Highmore (Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... and a couple of other famous kiddie movies) Again, he was amazing. It showed so much innocence yet very mature. Very fantastic.

So there we go. The storyline was very beautiful. And it flowed smoothly. There was really good chemistry in the cast. And at the end of it all... you just get this beautiful feeling. What a movie.

The Good Girl
I'm guessing this is Jennifer Aniston's only decent movie. Not that I have much to base it on. Hahaha. But she was great. She did it really well. And her Texan accent was natural. I didn't think she had it in her. LOL. She totally leaves Rachel behind in this one. (Though I'm not leaving Rachel... It's a good thing Star World is restarting Friends from the first season. :D)

Basically, the story's quite cliche. A girl married to a man. Gets bored with marriage. Finds "soulmate." But what I like most about it is (a hit or miss factor): the soulmate is emo. (It's a hit for me since I'm all for offbeat characters.) It adds the quirk factor. It makes all the difference. (It'll be a miss for the anti-emo. But who is?) By the way his case of emo isn't as severe as today's depticion of emo-ness. (wtf am i talking about?)

Soulmate is played by Jake Gyllenhaal. He does the role great justice. I just wish he was suicidal by knife. Lol. Bum husband is played by John C. Reilly. Great... as always. Additional acting cast is completed by Zooey Deschanel. I did not recognize her! But she does well as a goth.

I basically liked it a lot. The story flowed smoothly for the most part and most holes were filled if there were. The comedy was put in well and so was the drama. (I'm a sucker for this genre.)

I dunno it it was just my copy, but everything seemed to lack color. If it was intetntional by the film makers, it must've been symbolic of the lack of life the Jennifer Aniston's character. But seriously, I'd rather they shot it in more color. It looked really dull.

I loved this film. :D

Ok. it's four in the morning. I'm leaving na... when kaya will i finish this? o.O

Movies.

Okay. Here are more. (It's 2am. Why am I doing this?)
WARNING. Spoilers.

I'll do them alphabetically.

Disney's Aladdin
You'll be encountering more Disney movies as you scroll down. I decided to (download and) watch them because of Ms. Magallona. She showed us a clip of Beauty and the Beast, and I was amazed by it. So I decided to watch some animated Disney musicals.

I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. However amazing Robin Williams is as the Genie, I didn't find myself liking the character. I think it's because he made too much movie violations. Actually, the whole movie was filled with violations. What violations? The Suspension of Disbelief. I found it quite annoying to see American this, future that, Disney this and whatever. Magic carpets and communicating with tigers and monkeys, I can still believe, but throw in flying flamingos with (supposedly-funny) human facial expressions in the supposedly most romantic part of the film? Hello?

I agree on Roger Ebert (a film reviewer... probably my idol) in that Aladdin and Jasmine are too American in features where everyone was very Arabic. But I disagree in the what he states as the lack of chemistry... they suit each other well.

The songs. They were very memorable.
What I didn't like was Friend Like Me. Why? Again, suspension of disbelief. But I guess this movie was made for the kids. A more fun type of movie rather than a romantic one. And I guess it delivers on that.

Babel
First of all... before hearing about this film, I always pronounced it as bAbel. I didn't know it's actuall babel. (Or are they being maarte lang?)

This film got me bored at parts and really interested at other parts. I guess I can blame both the language barrier and the country-bias I have.

What I most related to was the story of the Japanese girl. She's deaf and she wants acceptance (and some sex). Basic theme. Beautiful portrayal. She really deserves her Oscar nomination. I think I liked it most because of the weakness factor. I'm a sucker for racism-sterotypes-disabilities-etc type of movies. Hahaha. But really. The story was wonderful and I enjoyed it the most. (I also loved the disco scene.)

The second storyline I liked the most was the Spanish woman's. She's a babysitter who can't let go of the children she's taking care of. (Parents are busy... to be explained later) She needs to go to her son's wedding in Mexico, so she brings them along. It was going well until they return back to the States and the border police get in the way. I guess I liked this one since it was Latin and second because of the children. Again, the woman deserves her Oscar nomination. The story was tragic and her plight was really well-portrayed.

The other two storylines take part in the Middle East and mostly bored me. Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett play a couple on vacation wherein the latter gets shot. bored me to death. Their story wasn't as interesting. I got annoyed when they wouldn't let the bus people go. I got annoyed with them. Period. The only interesting scene was the peeing scene just because you can see the love of the husband for the wife. And that's it.
Just to mention... they're the parents of the two kids who have the Mexican nanny. As such, they cannot attend to their children.

The second one is about a middle eastern child who accidentally shoots an American. This causes destruction within his family and in the world. (middle eastern-American relations) The only parts that interested me were (1) the child's discoveries--which shows he still is growing up and maturing--and (2) the escape scene.

Basically. It's a good film. It showcased a lot of stuff. It has good stories.
But for me... not everything is worth the hype. It's got some good points. It's got its weakenesses. And basically, it'll be boring if you can't find your own connection to it.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast
I wish it won the Oscar. That was an enchanting love story. It really was. It's not only a kid-thing. It's something more. It's a marvel. Just... wow.

And it's a genuine musical. I mean... Menken and Ashman. That's like... wow. You can really see the quality just from the first song, Belle. (which, by the way, was the clip Ms. Magallona showed. the clip that made me download the Disney movies) Surprising to note all the voices can sing: they didn't need singing voices. (take Mulan for example: Ming Na plays the acting voice while Lea Salonga does the singing voices)

It really was romantic. There was real chemistry... and to think they're cartoon characters.

And the comedic inserts were cool as well. They weren't forced in. Neither were they out of place. *ehemaladdinehem*

Crash
Again, another racism film. Haha! This one was a mighty good film.
It's got a lot of (good) storylines so I won't detail on all of them.

I guess the strongest mark made was on the Matt Dillon-Thandie Newton relation. Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! I wish Dillon won the Oscar.

Michael Pena's part was amazing. I really felt for his character. Grabe. What a wow.

Don Cheadle and his mother's part. Grabe. Another really strong scene. Really heart-wrenching. Amazing. Amazing.

Ryan Philippe's story was quite interesting as well. His racial encounters were quite... hmmm. His part was complicated, and I liked how it went out. It went sort of backward on him. And I guess that's fate.

Ludacris annoyed me. I don't really get his story.

Pinka-walang kwenta, I guess, was Julia Roberts and Brendan Fraser. They've got depth on their part. But they're stories weren't deepened that well. I wish they had though. It seemed promising.

Anyhow. Great movie. Could be better though. :D

That's it for now. I have seven more to review.
But it's 3:15am and I'm going to the cemetery tomorrow morning. So I'm off to bed. :D

Just have to mention. I didn't think my movie reviews would be like this.
Check my older ones.... they're all short.
Hmmm.... I might make a career out of this. lol.
But no... I know I can do better. Haha.

never know how much i love you

College.

Here I go again. haha (escape now... or forever hold your peace)
I feel so undecided. o.O (that's box 999 in the PSATs. lol)

I know I'm going to end up in either UP or Ateneo. (considering I pass...)
(and even in these schools, I dunno what course to take.... help!)

But I have this feeling inside of me.
I wanna go to New York.

o.O
I know, right? WTF?

But seriously... I was going through them colleges that send you e-mails to consider their school. (based on your PSAT)

The one that really looks good is Columbia. (an ivy in new york)
It looks really amazing... and inviting.
Sans the $51K price tag. (or P2M) which is definitely out of my league. Lol.
And damn... it also looks pretty hard!

Then there were these other colleges that looked good too.

But my point is... I really wanna get out of here.
Live independently... you know?

Right now--honestly,--I see myself doing _______.
(don't guess na... lalo na kung kung-anu-anong yang kagaguhan.)

I know, right? Another WTF.
Well of course you won't know. Basta, it seems far-fetched for someone like me. But I really do.... really.

Anyhow... back to reality.
I'm undecided about what course to take.
But I'm leaning on Communications Technology Management in the Ateneo.
But some say it's a waste of my capabilities. Any suggestions?

For some reason... the more realistic side sees me in
a. Journalism (film reviews or feature articles)
b. some Advertising company
c. in the HR, PR or marketing department in the corporate world of some company
d. in some party-organizing company.

My future seems so hazy.
I wanna know what's going to happen....
or at least find a path. o.O

c'mon! it's gonna be lots of fun!

I got bored a while ago... so I went channel-a-skipping.

I ran across Nickelodeon...

aww... my favorite right now is Kimi. lol.
but I distinctly remember it used to be Chuckie.
and right now... I've taken a liking to Angelica.

Shucks. Memories.

I dedicate this blog to two of my childhood favorites. sigh.

QT Day 3

It's official. I can't eat food anymore--that is... until the morning.
I'm going to my annual checkup. So I can't eat anything for the tests to be.... accurate? But I can't wait: after, I get my fave breakfast in the world: Sausage McMuffin with Egg <3

Okay. Day 3 started out real bad.
I wanted to strangle someone.

Why? The school bus arrived late all because he (rather they) took really long.
Hell, I take long, but I don't make everyone late.
But... we weren't really late. It's just that, we arrived at 7:15.

But that wasn't it. He was "bullying" the other kids. And I can't stand for that.
Plus.... THE NOISE! It ruined my morning.
Sana pinagsabihan ko.

Anyhow....

Science: "i dunno if it was hard or easy. i really dunno"
Yeah. That's true. I dunno how to classify it. It was ??
But I bet I got low. As usual... it's Mr. Chua.
(plus, I was careless... I mistook Si and S. sheet.)

CLE: "damn easy"
no more words to say. :D
lol... the title.

I ate lunch at TOSH with Charles and the guys. Sorta like a despedida.
Buenviaje, Chinamen!

Faci Auditions.
Nerve-wracking. The wait was really long. I was one of the lasts. And butterflies kept flying in my stomach. Haha!
The actual auds went well enough at least. :D I hope I get in.

After... I took my first Jeep ride ALONE. As in... walang kasama. :))
Off to greenhills.

I bought MnMs and Hershey's.
I bought a screen guard for my iPod.
I canvassed around for DS prices. :D
I read a joke book in Fully Booked to pass time.

And then I met with the gang. (sori na!)
We watched high school musical. o.O
Hahaha. I think it's the best among the three. Hahaha.

By the way. I kept talking myself in a sucky scottish accent. :P

And that's it.
FREEDOM!
happy sembreak y'all.

must watch heroes...
